It All Begins With A Song: The Story of the Nashville Songwriter—an award-winning documentary on Nashville’s renowned songwriting community—is now available to stream/purchase via iTunes, Google Play, Vudu, FlixFling and Amazon. Watch the film’s trailer HERE.
While Nashville is known by most for its live music, the documentary showcases that it is also the largest community of songwriters in the world. People come from all over to write songs and this documentary illustrates just how imperative songwriting is to Nashville’s creative community. “I can promise you, a hundred songs are being written right now in this town. This very second. And that makes Nashville a very unique place,” states Brett James, Grammy-award winning songwriter.
Directed by Chusy Haney-Jardine, the film dives deep into the world of Nashville’s songwriters and tells their stories in a new way by depicting their creative processes, chronicling their successes and struggles and documenting firsthand how their songs affect people’s lives. Since its debut, the documentary has received numerous awards including three Silver Lions at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and a Bronze Clio Award.
Presented by Music City, Inc. and VMLY&R, the film features interviews with some of Nashville most renowned artists and songwriters including Kacey Musgraves, Garth Brooks, Keb’ Mo’, Luke Bryan, Jonathan Cain (Journey), Brad Paisley, Mikky Ekko, Jessi Alexander (“The Climb,” Miley Cyrus), Mac Davis (“In the Ghetto,” Elvis) Claude Kelly (“Grenade,” Bruno Mars), Brett James (“Jesus Take the Wheel,” Carrie Underwood), Liz Rose (“White Horse,” Taylor Swift) , Desmond Child (“Livin’ On a Prayer,” Bon Jovi) and many more.
Of the documentary, Butch Spyridon, President and CEO of Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp and Music City, Inc. shares, “These songwriters are the soul of this town. Their story was begging to be told and it was an honor to have them share their stories with us.”
It All Begins With A Song: The Story of the Nashville Songwriter pays tribute to songwriters as one of the most valuable resources in the music industry today. “These people are geniuses. And so, I’m proud to be from Nashville,” says Desmond Child. The world hums their tunes, knows their words by heart and tells stories through their art, yet few know their names. From the eureka moment of uncovering a musical gem that turns into a hit, to receiving a Grammy, to hearing how their words and music change people’s lives, this film honors these important and unknown forces in music in a way that has never been done before.
