Bar East Now Open in the Heart of Five Points in East Nashville

Elevated cocktail bar offers over-the-top libations along with Far East inspired cuisine.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bar East, East Nashville’s newest cocktail bar and restaurant, opened quietly at 970 Woodland St. just before Thanksgiving. The sophisticated cocktail bar and restaurant boasts global eats and elevated libations in the 3,350-square-foot space at the corner of Woodland Street and S. 10th Street.

Beverage Director Ashland Ghaffari is the mixologist behind the creation of Bar East’s over-the-top signature cocktails. Ghaffari’s mixologist background is complemented by her formal culinary education, which allows the cocktail menu to feature fresh techniques and approaches to the creation of each drink. The menu includes Highball Features that pair Japanese Whiskeys with craft sodas, as well as Signature Cocktails including unique offerings such as the Bittersweet Love Affair, a mezcal and tequila cocktail poured over an edible black rose and Wanna Pisco Me?, a vodka based beverage featuring lemongrass and blue spirulina, topped with a beet citrus foam.

As for food, Bar East goes beyond the typical bar fare. Owner Nina Singto, who is also the owner and chef of Nashville’s beloved Thai Esane, has designed Bar East’s food menu to showcase international flavors, and as the bar’s name alludes to, includes many offerings inspired by the Far East region of Asia. Guests can expect Singto’s irresistible drunken noodles and pad Thai on the menu, with new Asian-fusion inspired dishes making a debut such as the Spam Fried Rice and a Miso Butter Board. Some more unexpected fare includes the Cheese-Corn Flambe, a flaming shaved corn and queso dip, the Macho Tot-chos, a tater tot nacho dish topped with ground beef, queso, goat cheese, crispy chickpeas, jalapeno, tomato and lettuce, and the Bodacious Burger Bites, featuring teriyaki beef sliders with cheddar, onion, lettuce, tomato and pickle.

Powell was the architect behind the design of the space, bringing a sophisticated, fresh look to the restaurant. Twenty-two iridescent panels hang from above the 10-seat bar, with additional seating throughout the restaurant designed for larger groups to enjoy in large community style tables and curved turquoise leather banquettes. Beyond Bar East’s vibey interiors, guests can enjoy its 40-seat heated patio with plans to open its rooftop level in Spring 2023. Bar East is currently open Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. with expanded hours on the weekend of Friday from 4 p.m. until midnight, Saturday from noon until midnight and Sunday noon until 10 p.m. Lunch service beginning each day at 11 a.m. will be added on Jan. 2, 2023.
