The Gulch Adds Two Restaurants from James Beard Award-Winning Chef Andrew Carmellini, Opening Fall 2021

Acclaimed New York City chef, restaurateur and author opening two neighborhood restaurants in the new W Nashville.

Nashville, Tenn. – Andrew Carmellini, the acclaimed chef who’s earned among many accolades two James Beard Awards, a New York Times two- and three-star review and Best New Chef recognition by Food & Wine, has announced his next two restaurants will be landing in the new and highly anticipated W Nashville in the Gulch this fall. Both neighborhood-focused spots with street-facing entrances, The Dutch will offer a livelier atmosphere with a laid-back American comfort food menu, whereas Carne Mare will be a more formal night out as a contemporary Italian chophouse.

“We’ve been working on this project for seven years, so it’s amazing to finally see these restaurants come to life,” says Carmellini. “Nashville has come so far since I first visited the city 20 years ago. The food scene here is incredible, and I’m honored to have the opportunity to be a part of it.”

Born in Ohio and raised by parents who taught him delicious food is made from simple ingredients prepared well, Carmellini specializes in American food rooted in quality, seasonality and altogether flavorful and tasty dishes that make you happy. He’s excited to apply that equation to his two forthcoming spots using the South’s unique bounty of produce, meats and other regional ingredients.

The first opening of the two restaurants, The Dutch will feature brunch, lunch and supper, including an array of delicious, well-executed appetizers, mains, desserts and shareable sides like Grilled Hanger Steak with Kimchi Fried Rice and a Sunny Side Up Egg, Crab Salad with Bloody Mary Dressing and Pecan Duck with Dirty Rice, Scallion and Kumquat. As for the bar menus, the long list of domestic spirits, international wines and craft beers is enough to keep bar guests entertained long into the night. Specialties of the bar include cocktails mixed with respectable American spirits, a nice selection of craft beers and a wine list covering all territories and price ranges including a reserve list.

Carne Mare, on the other hand, draws from Carmellini’s international experience working in some of the finest restaurants in Europe, including under Valentino Mercantile at the Michelin two-star San Domenico in Emilio-Romagna, Italy. Guests will be treated to prime cuts of steaks, fine seafood and Italian specialties, as well as Italian wine and classic cocktails.

Carmellini’s partners in The Dutch and Carne Mare are hospitality experts Luke Ostrom and Josh Pickard of New York City’s NoHo Hospitality. The two restaurants are key in W Nashville’s overall vision to create an energy-packed experience that reflects the city’s tradition of hospitality as soon as guests leave their hotel room. W Nashville, owned and developed by Twelfth Avenue Realty, sits at a cultural junction of creativity where culinary, music, art and fashion converge. Located in the heart of the Gulch, the W pulls from the energy of the surrounding streetscapes by having its entrances, storefronts and dining options purposefully positioned around the exterior further enhancing the walkability of the neighborhood for guests and locals alike. The long-awaited property is set to include an expansive rooftop bar with 360-degree panoramic views of the city, an animated pool scene on the unprecedented WET Deck, a new music venue and more.
