Hemingway's Bar & Hideaway owners announce name change

April 10, 2019 – Hemingway’s Bar & Hideaway, the popular establishment in the heart of Wedgewood-Houston, will soon change its name to Earnest Bar & Hideaway, announce owners Paul Cercone & Christopher Weber.

“Papa was well-versed, well-traveled, and well-imbibed, and a fitting inspiration for Hemingway’s Bar & Hideaway,” said Cercone. “We established a relationship with his estate and gained approval to use the name, but every trademark comes with a cost. Ultimately it was a wise business decision to rename our little haven in Wedgewood-Houston, though our inspiration remains the same: liberation from obligation through libation & fare.  We have a lot of fun with what we take seriously, and we look forward to continuing to serve you at Earnest Bar & Hideaway.”

Earnest Bar & Hideaway will keep intact the original concept, menu and team that brought Hemingway’s to 438 Houston Street when it opened in summer 2017. An idea that emerged from love of literature and passion for hospitality, the restaurant and bar provides libations and fare to a neighborhood undergoing a culinary and artistic resurgence. Earnest Bar & Hideaway remains an unpretentious hideaway for social gatherings, where guests can order easy to drink libations and delicious, bistro-style food for lunch, dinner and late-night snacks by chef Larry Carlile.
