Carnton, home of Carrie and John McGavock, was not a unique home for its' time period until the American Civil War landed on their doorstep. The home served as the largest Confederate field hospital following the Battle of Franklin, fought in 1864. And the backyard became the site of The McGavock Confederate Cemetery.
