Ometeo Turns Up the Heat: Bringing the Soul of Tex-Mex Cuisine to Nashville

Greater D.C. concept lands at Peabody Union in South Bank with robust flavors, warm hospitality, and an original take on a beloved cuisine.

Nashville, TN – Ometeo (oh-meh-TEH-oh), the beloved concept known for its layered yet approachable take on Tex-Mex cuisine, is set to open at Peabody Union, introducing Nashville diners to a distinctive blend of tradition, originality, and hospitality. More than an expansion, Ometeo arrives with the weight and intention of a flagship.

Founded in the Greater DMV area and shaped by Top Chef winner and Chef-Partner Gabe Erales, a native of El Paso, Ometeo reimagines Tex-Mex through a more refined, modern lens. The Nashville location builds on that foundation while pushing it forward through a deeper exploration of live-fire cooking and using Southern and Gulf Coast ingredients.

The name Ometeo is derived from ōmetēotl, the Nahuatl philosophy representing duality, in this case Texas and Mexico, defined as two forces with one identity. At Ometeo, those traditions expand further, reaching into the local landscape to honor Tennessee’s ingredients, producers and vibrant culinary spirit.

"We’re excited to bring Ometeo to Nashville, offering a take on Tex-Mex that respects its roots. Our goal is to highlight nostalgic dishes while maintaining a sense of curiosity for new flavors and techniques," said Jeremy Carman, Partner at Long Shot Hospitality. “Nashville felt like the right place because of its energy, creativity, and deep appreciation for food and local culture. Our goal is to create an experience that feels easy to walk into, whether it’s a casual evening or a night out with friends, and we’re looking forward to being embraced by the Music City community.”

The Nashville menu reflects a significant evolution of the concept. While signature dishes like Matamoros tacos, beef rib with ayocotes, and chile colorado enchiladas remain, the kitchen introduces new dimensions through live-fire techniques, bringing smoke and flame to the forefront in ways not seen in the original DC concept. A chef-driven fajita menu alongside a scratch-made heirloom corn and flour tortilla program, a hallmark of Tex-Mex tradition, is reimagined through a unique spin that pairs authenticity with innovation.

Beyond the food, Ometeo Nashville offers a space that earns its place in one of the city's most anticipated new developments. Designed by Grizform Design Architects, the interior moves through a series of distinct but connected environments. From an intimate entry of handcrafted tile and ironwork, to a soaring bar anchored beneath dramatic vaulted arches. The large outdoor patio bar overlooks the Cumberland River while also adjacent to the Ascend Amphitheatre, offering one of Nashville's most compelling spots for an open-air margarita. The space is designed to capture a lively Friday night just as comfortably as it holds a relaxed Tuesday dinner.

Ometeo’s opening details will be announced in the coming months.

About Ometeo:

Ometeo is a modern Tex-Mex restaurant from Long Shot Hospitality, created in partnership with Chef Gabe Erales and inspired by the Nahuatl word of ōmetēotl, reflecting the balance between Texas and Mexico’s culinary traditions. Rooted in the borderland cuisine of Northern Mexico and Texas, Ometeo offers a refined, contemporary take on Tex-Mex through high-quality ingredients, thoughtful technique, and a strong sense of place.

The menu features crafted interpretations of familiar dishes like tacos, tostadas, and fajitas, alongside live-fire cooking, complex sauces, and a Gulf Coast–influenced seafood program. A dedicated tortilla program uses Mexican heirloom corn that is nixtamalized and ground in-house daily, while the beverage program highlights refined cocktails and agave-based spirits. Designed to be both vibrant and welcoming, Ometeo pairs layered, design-forward spaces with warm, attentive hospitality to deliver a distinctive and evolving Tex-Mex experience.
