NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Nashville Opera will take audiences from the streets of Rome to a comic-book universe and back to one of opera's most beloved comedies during its 2026-27 season.
The season includes Giacomo Puccini's gripping thriller Tosca, Jason Powell’s contemporary comic opera Fortuna The Time Bender Vs The Schoolgirls Of Doom, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's enduring masterpiece The Marriage of Figaro.
"Our 2026-27 season showcases the remarkable variety of stories opera can tell," said Artistic Director John Hoomes. "Audiences will experience intense drama, laugh-out-loud comedy, and some of the most beautiful music ever written. Whether you're a longtime opera lover or attending for the first time, there's something in this season for everyone."
The season opens Oct. 8 and 10 at TPAC's Jackson Hall with Puccini's Tosca, a thriller set amid Napoleonic-era political intrigue in Rome. The story follows celebrated singer Floria Tosca and her lover Mario, a resistance fighter, as they become entangled with the corrupt and dangerous police chief Scarpia. Featuring jealousy, betrayal, torture, a mock execution that turns real and one of opera's most iconic endings, Tosca remains one of the art form's most powerful tragedies.
In November, Nashville Opera will present Jason Powell’s Fortuna The Time Bender Vs The Schoolgirls Of Doom Nov. 13-15 in The Studio Theater at the Noah Liff Opera Center. The comic-book-inspired opera follows Fortuna, a superhero with the power to manipulate time, as she battles the villainous Headmaster and his trio of henchwomen known as the Schoolgirls of Doom. Blending influences from opera, Broadway, Gilbert & Sullivan, Hollywood film scores and soft 1980s rock , production offers an energetic and accessible introduction to contemporary opera.
The season concludes April 15 and 17, 2027, with Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at TPAC's Jackson Hall. Set several years after the events of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, the opera follows Figaro and Susanna as they prepare for their wedding while navigating the schemes of the Count, whose abuse of power threatens their future. Widely regarded as one of the greatest comic operas ever written, the work combines sharp humor, unforgettable music and a story centered on the intelligence and determination of its female characters.
