Lighting the Way for the Pro Cheer League
National broadcast and new professional league spotlight Nashville as a growing sports hub.
Nashville, TN -- The debut of the Pro Cheer League marked more than the launch of a new competition—it introduced a new professional athletic platform to national audiences. The season culminated in a championship event at Nashville Municipal Auditorium, where the league’s first champions were crowned during a nationwide broadcast on ION Television.
Developed by Varsity Spirit, the league brings elite cheer athletes into a head-to-head format designed for both live audiences and television, positioning cheer as a professional spectator sport. The inaugural season reached more than 5 million viewers, surpassing expectations and securing a second season.
A key contributor to that success was Nashville-based UpLight Technologies, whose team supported the league across multiple venues and formats. With decades of experience producing many of the nation’s largest cheerleading events, UpLight combined deep roots in the cheer industry with extensive work in touring, corporate, and athletic productions to create a scalable, broadcast-ready environment.
That blend of specialized expertise and cross-industry experience proved integral to delivering a consistent, high-quality experience for both live audiences and national viewers—helping establish the league as a credible professional sports property from day one.
“This was about creating something that could live on a national stage,” said David Surbrook of UpLight Technologies. “The goal was to elevate the sport and create an environment that matched the level of these athletes.”
Beyond the production itself, the success of the Pro Cheer League reflects a broader trend: Nashville’s continued emergence as a destination for major sporting events and broadcast productions. By hosting a new professional league with national reach, the city further strengthens its reputation as a hub for innovative sports and entertainment experiences.
As Nashville continues to attract new leagues, tours, and broadcast productions, the presence of experienced local partners like UpLight Technologies enhances the city’s ability to deliver at a national level. For event organizers, that combination of infrastructure, creative talent, and proven production support makes Nashville an increasingly compelling choice.
With its successful debut and national reach, the Pro Cheer League represents both a milestone for the sport—and a clear signal of Nashville’s continued growth as a premier destination for professional athletics and live broadcast events.
