Two Giants: Guerrero & Bronfman

Combining their artistic talents, Music Director Laureate Giancarlo Guerrero collaborates with world-renowned pianist Yefim Bronfman. Together, they forge a partnership through Sergei Rachmaninoff's demanding 3rd Piano Concerto. This will be a performance to savor. 

While Rachmaninoff was already fully formed as a composer, another Russian was beginning to show his talents. Dmitri Shostakovich wrote his First Symphony at the age of 19. It was immediately embraced worldwide within a year of its 1926 premiere. 

Julia Wolfe's Liberty Bell, co-commissioned by the Nashville Symphony, asks how music can embody the reach for freedom. Wolfe's answer is unambiguous: "Obtaining liberty is not a quiet, tidy process. It is a messy, boisterous, ongoing, interlocking struggle." You'll feel every bit of it.
