ABOUT JOSEPH WOOTEN
Joseph Wooten, known as "Hands of Soul," is a three-time GRAMMY-nominated keyboardist, vocalist, composer, author, and humanitarian. For over three decades, he was the keyboardist and backing vocalist for the legendary Steve Miller Band, performing in more than 1,000 shows worldwide, including the Kennedy Center, the White House, and major festivals such as New Orleans Jazz Fest and Austin City Limits. His playing is featured on multiple Gold and Platinum recordings that helped define the band's iconic sound.
A member of the renowned Wooten Brothers—alongside Victor Wooten, Roy "Futureman" Wooten, and Regi Wooten—Joseph has built a career that blends funk, soul, jazz, and socially conscious songwriting. His solo albums, "Hands of Soul" and "Soul of Freedom," highlight his distinctive style and commitment to using music as a tool for storytelling and change.
Wooten is also the author of "It All Matters: What I Believe, Words I Live By" and delivered the TEDx talk "Nothing Is Everything: It All Matters," focusing on themes of unity, empathy, and personal responsibility. With his wife, Stephanie, he co-founded the nonprofit I Matter! You Matter!, which supports veterans, provides scholarships, and empowers youth through music and community outreach.
In 2025, after 32 years with the Steve Miller Band, Wooten entered a new chapter centered on solo projects, production, and advocacy. He is currently recording a new solo album slated for release in 2026, launching a podcast, and preparing for a new tour with the Wooten Brothers. He will also release new Christmas music in December, in addition to hosting a benefit for wounded veterans at Rudy's Jazz Room in Nashville.
Whether performing on stage, recording in the studio, or speaking to audiences, Joseph Wooten continues his lifelong mission to create music that uplifts, challenges, and connects.
