On the first Saturday of each month, scout troops across Tennessee are encouraged to sign up to complete a flag care service project at the Tennessee State Capitol. Tennessee state officials honor individual Tennesseans who have or are contributing in significant ways to our state or nation. Examples could include fallen service members or first responders, community leaders, or anyone making a difference. These honored Tennesseans receive a folded flag of the state of Tennessee that has been displayed in their honor at the Tennessee State Capitol. These flags need to be properly folded before they are presented. The Tennessee State Museum is hosting a monthly program that invites scout organizations to fold these flags. A flag-folding work session will be held on the first Saturday morning of each month at the Tennessee State Capitol. At the conclusion of the folding session, Museum educators from the State Museum will guide the scout troop on a private tour of the Tennessee State Capitol. This service project and capitol visit can satisfy several merit badge and rank advancement requirements for Scouting America and the Girl Scouts of America.

Troop leaders are encouraged to call or email the Tennessee State Museum at 615-741-0830 or [email protected].

One Saturday per month will be reserved for one troop. Scouts at the flag-folding program will receive instruction on proper flag care, folding procedures, and best practices for display.
