"A modern guitar virtuoso." - Guitar Player Magazine
"One of jazz's most celebrated guitar players." - All About Jazz
Internationally acclaimed guitarist Fareed Haque joins the Pat Coil Trio for a special evening of jazz featuring pianist Pat Coil, bassist Jacob Jezioro, and drummer Ryan Brasley. Together, the quartet will perform a program of standards, originals, and inventive arrangements, drawing on the musical interplay and spontaneous improvisation that have long defined the jazz tradition.
Modern guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque is widely recognized for his extraordinary versatility, seamlessly blending jazz, classical, world music, fusion, and contemporary improvisation into a distinctive musical voice. Born to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother, his early exposure to a wide range of musical traditions continues to shape a career defined by technical mastery, stylistic range, and fearless creativity.
After studying jazz at the University of North Texas and classical guitar at Northwestern University, Haque launched an international career that has spanned more than four decades. He has performed and recorded with artists including Paquito D'Rivera, Joe Zawinul, Sting, Joe Henderson, Herbie Mann, Bob James, Cassandra Wilson, Joe Lovano, Zakir Hussain, and many others, while releasing acclaimed recordings as a leader on Blue Note Records and Sting's Pangaea label.
Haque is also the co-founder of the influential fusion group Garaj Mahal, whose decade of extensive touring helped establish the band as one of the leading acts in the modern jam and jazz-fusion scene. His work as a composer has included commissioned concertos for guitar, and he has appeared with orchestras, chamber ensembles, and at major jazz festivals throughout the world. In 2009, he was voted Best World Guitarist in Guitar Player magazine's Readers' Poll.
Equally at home in straight-ahead jazz, global musical traditions, and adventurous improvisation, Fareed Haque remains one of today's most distinctive and innovative voices on the guitar.
