Hailing from Chicago, pianist Alex Murphy grew up surrounded by music in a family that nurtured his passion from an early age. He went on to study at DePaul University under Ron Perrillo and Dana Hall, and has learned from masters like Aaron Goldberg, Bill Charlap, Mark Colenburg, and Pascal LeBoeuf.
Alex's performance credits include national staples such as the Jazz Showcase, Andy's Jazz Club, the Green Mill, Rudy's Jazz Room, and Snug Harbor. He has appeared at the Chicago Jazz Festival and shared the stage with artists including Nicholas Payton, Bobby Broom, Dezron Douglas, Joel Frahm, and Chester Thompson.
Now based in Nashville, Alex continues to expand his artistry through live performance and studio work across jazz, pop, R&B, and hip hop. With a deep love for Black American Music, his playing reflects both respect for the tradition and a vision for where it can go.
