Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage to Commemorate Jackson’s 259th Birthday, the Ladies Hermitage Association, and Women’s History Month in March

The programs include a variety of family-friendly activities that highlight the history of the property and the broader United States.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Andrew Jackson Foundation, which owns and operates The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s historic home and Presidential site, announced today a lineup of March events to commemorate Women’s History Month and celebrate Jackson’s 259th birthday.

“March is a big month at The Hermitage as we remember Andrew Jackson's birthday and honor the Ladies Hermitage Association, without which The Hermitage wouldn’t exist as it stands today,” says Chief Experience Officer Tony Guzzi. “Our programming also celebrates Women’s History Month, with educational and interactive event like the Great Women of Black History and Susan B. Anthony living history experience, which expand the history and perspectives that we get to share on the property.”

Alongside recurring monthly events such as the Virtual Book Club meeting and Dogs and Donuts at The Hermitage, March’s events schedule can be found below.

  • Sunday, March 8, 3 p.m. — Empowered, Brilliant, and Brave: Great Women of Black History: Transitioning from Black History Month into Women’s History Month, The Hermitage is kicking off March with a performance from Bright Star Touring Theater titled Empowered, Brilliant, and Brave: Great Women of Black History. This dynamic and engaging performance will portray iconic women, from abolitionist and activist Sojourner Truth to jazz Singer Ella Fitzgerald, former first lady Michelle Obama, and more.   • Thursday, March 12, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. — Homeschool Day: The Industrial Revolution: Join us for a Homeschool Day session focused on the Industrial Revolution. Suited for students aged 5-11, this Homeschool Day allows kids to learn about the history of this time period and the scientific principles that drove remarkable discoveries such as the railroads, steam engines, and telegraphs forward.   • Sunday, March 15, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Andrew Jackson’s 259th Birthday: Admission to the grounds will be half off for all guests to celebrate Andrew Jackson’s 259th Birthday. Activities include a birthday cake cutting, a birthday card station, lawn games and crafts, dueling demonstrations, and a scavenger hunt that will encourage participants to explore the grounds while learning about its history. There will also be a formal wreath-laying ceremony at 1:00 p.m. featuring a wreath gifted by the White House. The ceremony will include a keynote address from BG Ansel “Mark” Tyndall, Tennessee National Guard Director of the Joint Staff. More info here.
  • Sunday, March 15, all day — 2026 Ladies Hermitage Association Exhibit Opening: The Hermitage will host a temporary exhibit honoring the Ladies Hermitage Association, whom the State of Tennessee entrusted with the preservation of The Hermitage in 1889. This year’s exhibit, focusing on the first three decades of the Ladies Hermitage Association, will be called Saving Old Hickory’s Hermitage: The Women Who Preserved History — And Changed It. The exhibit will be located in the Andrew Jackson Visitor Center and will be available to all ticket holders. The exhibit will be open to the public until October 31, 2026.
  • Saturday, March 21, 5 p.m. — Votes for Women: A Conversation with Susan B. Anthony: Learn about activist Susan B. Anthony (1820-1906) through a Living History portrayal from actress Linda McKenney. This interactive storytelling event will offer an engaging way to learn about Susan B. Anthony and her role as a leader in the Women’s Suffrage, Temperance, and Abolition movements, and why her work still matters today. Adult tickets are $40, admission is free for children 13 & under.
