Adventure Science Center to Honor Nashville’s Top STEM Leaders at Second Annual STEM Innovation Awards
NASA Artemis Scientist Dr. Jeannette Luna to Deliver Keynote Address.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Adventure Science Center announced final details for its second annual STEM Innovation Awards, a signature evening event celebrating the people and partnerships advancing science, technology, engineering, and math education across Middle Tennessee. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 5:30–7:00 PM (doors open at 4:30 PM), in the Sudekum Planetarium at Adventure Science Center.
Keynote Speaker: Dr. Jeannette Luna
This year’s event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Jeannette Luna, Associate Professor of Geology and Assistant Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at Tennessee Tech University. A sedimentary and planetary geologist, Dr. Luna specializes in stratigraphy, surface processes, and geologic mapping of the Moon and Mars.
In March 2026, Dr. Luna was selected as a member of NASA’s Artemis science team to support the first crewed landed mission to the Moon, currently scheduled for 2028. Her team is responsible for creating maps for science exploration and to ensure safe surface operations as the crew explores the South Pole of the Moon.
2026 Award Honorees
Three outstanding individuals will be recognized at this year’s ceremony:
Visionary Award — Ralph Schulz: Awarded to an individual whose leadership and forward-thinking vision have significantly advanced STEM opportunities within our community.
Future Forward Award — Shanna Jackson, Ed.D., President, Nashville State Community College: Recognizing a leader preparing the next generation for STEM careers through innovation in education and workforce development.
Community Partner Award — Herbert Brown, Turner Construction Company: Celebrating a community partner whose commitment and collaboration help expand access to STEM learning and career pathways.
Event Details
Guests will enjoy light bites, beer and wine generously provided by Ajax Turner, along with engaging conversation and a vibrant atmosphere designed to spark ideas and celebrate progress. Cocktail attire is requested. Proceeds from this event help expand educational opportunities that connect young people across our region with the exciting possibilities of STEM.
