NASHVILLE REPERTORY THEATRE PRESENTS STAGED READING OF GOOD PEOPLE

Nashville Rep produces its next REPaloud series with David Lindsay-Abaire’s, Good People.

NASHVILLE, TN (Friday, January 20, 2023) – Nashville Repertory Theatre is proud to present its second REPaloud of its 22/23 Season with David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People at the Nashville Public Television Station, 161 Rains Avenue, Nashville, TN, 37203, January 27th and 28th at 7:30. For reservations and show time information, visitwww.nashvillerep.org.

REPaloud stands for “Reading Excellent Plays” aloud. Prior to the pandemic, it was one of the most popular events presented by Nashville Rep. REPaloud is a series of staged readings of great plays by terrific actors that prod engaging and interactive Talk Backs. REPalouds are free to the whole community.

"REPaloud is an opportunity for audiences and artists to explore excellent scripts together,” says producer Micah-Shane Brewer. “Good People is such a well-written, powerful work. It's a funny, poignant and thought-provoking play about social class in America. How do people end up in certain situations and what power do they have to overcome hard times?"

Good People welcomes the audience to Southie, a Boston neighborhood where a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo, where this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills, and where Margie Walsh has just been let go from yet another job. Facing eviction and scrambling to catch a break, Margie thinks an old fling who’s made it out of Southie might be her ticket to a fresh new start. But is this apparently self-made man secure enough to face his humble beginnings? Margie is about to risk what little she has left to find out. With his signature humorous glow, Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties, and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America.

Nashville Rep’s stage dreading will be directed by Alicia Haymer, staring Holly Allenas Margaret, Karen Sternbergas Jean, Wesley Paineas Dottie, Sawyer Lathamas Stevie, Jack Chambersas Mike, Nina Hibbler Webster as Kate, Stage Directions by Lando Hawkins, and stage managed by Teresa Driver.

"I always look for opportunities to work with artistic pieces that really deal with human behavior,” says director Alicia Haymer. “The characters in this piece are working class. They pay bills, they have fun, they wonder what if, when it comes to where they are in life like many of us do. They question their choices, they are biased and imperfect, and sometimes just mean. Still, at their core, they believe they're good people. I believe this piece is for everyone because it validates the thought that we aren't our best moments, nor our worst, but something in between. Humans doing the best we can with what we've been given."

The remainder of Nashville Rep’s 22/23 season includes one of the greatest American plays of all time August Wilson’s Fences March 3 -5, 2023, the stage adaption of the beloved novel The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time March 24 - April 2, 2023, and closing the season with the intimate musical Violet May 12 -21, 2023.
