UNION STATION TO FEATURE BILLY BRAGG, JOE HENRY SEPTEMBER 22
In an Exclusive Edition of Riffs on the Rails, the Historic Train Station Will Host the Release of “Shine a Light”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 23, 2016) – The Union Station Hotel Nashville is excited to announce a special edition of its Riffs on the Rails music series: In partnership with the American Music Association, the event will feature Billy Bragg and Joe Henry to launch their new album, “Shine a Light.” These legendary singer songwriters have been recording from the great American Railroad and have chosen Nashville’s historic train station to culminate their journey, as well as to play a few riffs. The free event will be held during the 2016 Americana Music Festival and Conference on September 22, 2016, at 6 p.m.
In March 2016, Billy Bragg and Joe Henry boarded a Los Angeles-bound train at Chicago’s Union Station looking to reconnect with the culture of American railroad travel and the music it inspired. Winding along 2,728 miles of track over four days, the pair recorded classic railroad songs in waiting rooms and at trackside stops while the train paused to pick up passengers.
In its second year in Nashville, Union Station’s Riffs on the Rails live music series gets up close and personal with some of the city’s local singers and songwriters. This exclusive music showcase takes place every other Thursday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the grand lobby of the downtown hotel and has previously featured local legends including Boss Cotton, Holly Norman and Donna Frost, among many others.
Each Riffs on the Rails session offers incredible music and an intimate performance from local talent and the stories that inspired them, whether it was life on the road, broken hearts or falling in love with Nashville and never looking back. Featuring some of Music City’s most profound and influential songwriters, Riffs on the Rails is not to be missed in Nashville.
The event is scheduled for September 22 at 6 p.m. and is free to the public as part of the 17th Annual Americana Music Festival and Conference. This event offers six days of celebration through seminars, panels and networking opportunities by day and exciting music showcases by night.
