Science Center where it’s an amazing, original,
scientific adventure! Make your way Down the Hatch to The Heart of It All, Body
Battles, BrainStorm Theater and other interactive exhibits in BodyQuest, as you
learn how your body works. Plus experience the Adventure Tower,
BlueMax and more! 2. TALK TO THE ANIMALS – Nashville
Zoo at Grassmere is an animal adventure for everyone. Come
experience the new Alligator Cove, Giraffe Savannah and red river hog habitat. Ride
the Carousel, tour the Grassmere Historic Home and explore beautiful habitats
featuring Bengal tigers, elephants, zebras and
many other animals from around the world.
3. RIDE THE WAVES – Visit Nashville
Shores or Wave
Country and enjoy a day of fun and sun. Nashville Shores
features the 7 largest waterslides in Tennessee
as well as giant pools and miniature golf. Whether you're
enjoying the white sandy beaches on Percy Priest Lake, charging down a
giant waterslides, or just relaxing on a Shoreliner Cruise, it's a
great place to be! At Wave Country dive into the wave action, fresh water pool
and water slide complex.
4. HANDS ON ART – At the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, imagination
is all you need for the Visual Arts Art Quest. Hands-on and
computer-related activities at approximately 30 Art Stations relate art
concepts to Frist Center exhibitions and examine ways
in which art relates to everyday life and culture. Admission for people under
18 is free.
5. REV
YOUR ENGINES – The Lane Motor Museum is one of the few museums in America
to specialize in European cars. Approximately 150 cars and motorcycles not
typically seen in the U.S.
are on display. The majority of the vehicles were built in the 1950s through
1970s, although some are as old as the 1920s and as new as 2000. Come see the largest Tatra collection outside
Europe, a substantial micro car collection,
amphibious vehicles, competition cars, one-of-a-kind vehicles, alternative fuel
vehicles, military vehicles and a collection of motorcycles.
6. FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY – Opry
Mills is where "shoppertainment" comes to life . Visit the more than
200 stores, themed restaurants such as Rainforest Café and Aquarium Restaurant
& Stingray Reef, entertainment venues and interactive retailers. Take in a film at the Regal IMAX Theater. At the Checker Flag Lightning NASCAR Simulators drive a virtual
reality racecar and feel the exhilaration as you strap yourself in for the ride
of your life. Across the way, Dave & Buster’s Grand Sports Café is an
incredible entertainment and dining venue featuring all kinds of things to do with great restaurants, games, billiards, over-the-top bowling experience,
electronic simulation games and some of the best sports and media viewing
anywhere!
7. THEATER
AT ITS BEST – Founded in 1931, Nashville Children’s Theatre provides a season of plays for kids and families by professional adult actors
and has year-round drama workshops for youth. The theatre was ranked as one of
the top five children’s theatres in the U.S. by TIME magazine.
8. EXPLORE
NASHVILLE’S
PAST – A tour of The
Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson, by guides in period costume will
enchant you. Special tours include: garden, farm and horse-drawn tours given
seasonally, tours through active archaeology sites, Hauntings at The Hermitage
in October, Christmas tours, hands-on student group activities and more. Visit Fort Negley,
the largest and most important of the fortifications built by Union forces
after Nashville
fell in 1862 during the Civil War. Fort
Negley is the largest
inland stone fortification constructed during the Civil War. Stop by the Visitors Center
or tour the fort for spectacular view of Nashville.
Stop by Belle Meade Plantation, once a world renowned 5,400-acre Thoroughbred
horse farm and now a historic site and museum. This site is where the
bloodlines of Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones and Giacomo all
began.
9. OUTDOOR FUN – Bring
your skateboard and head over to Metro SkatePark at Two Rivers Park. The park offers a
state-of-the-art facility for skateboarding, freestyle in-line skating and BMX
bike riding. If you
prefer an indoor skatepark, visit Sixth
Avenue SkatePark. This indoor wood park features a unilateral design
with tranny and tech riders in mind. The 11,000 square feet of terrain includes
a 16’ vertical wall, 10’ bank to vertical corner, hips, ledges, rails, sub
wall, sub rail, spine ramps and a 4’ to 5’ capsule bowl, all surfaced with
Skatelite. Or head on over to the Grand Old
Golf & Go Karts and ride in 18 new go-carts on the
region's largest go-cart track and play at a miniature golf course with 45
holes. If you are a sports fanatic you will be right at home in Nashville. Check out
Nashville Sounds baseball, AAA-affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. There is
always a game being played in the summertime.
10. LEARN TO TWO-STEP – At the Wildhorse Saloon, they
serve up Country that Kicks! Order their famous BBQ and try line dancing. Daily
lessons are free for those adventurous enough to venture out on the dance
floor.
