FUN FAMILY ACTIVITIES YOU CAN ONLY DO IN NASHVILLE
1. BECOME A SPACE EXPLORER - Visit Adventure Science Center’s new Sudekum Planetarium and Space Chase exhibit hall. Embark on a simulated moon walk, launch rockets, learn to work in a weightless environment and view 6.5 million stars under a 63-foot planetarium dome. Plus, learn how the human body works as you make your way Down the Hatch to The Heart of It All, Body Battles, BrainStorm Theater and other interactive exhibits in BodyQuest.
2. TALK TO THE ANIMALS - Nashville Zoo at Grassmere is an animal adventure for everyone. Come experience the Alligator Cove, Giraffe Savannah and Critters Encounters exhibit where you can get up close and personal with some furry friends. Ride the Carousel, climb along the 66,000-square-foot wooden Jungle Gym, tour the Grassmere Historic Home and explore beautiful habitats featuring Bengal tigers, elephants, zebras and many other animals from around the world.
3. RIDE THE WAVES - Visit Nashville Shores or Wave Country and enjoy a day of fun and sun. Nashville Shores features the 7 largest waterslides in Tennessee, including the brand new Music City Racer. Take the family to “Dive-In Movie Night” which takes place on select Fridays throughout the summer. Play a game of miniature golf or volleyball or simply enjoy the white sandy beaches and a relaxing ride on a Shoreliner Cruise. At Wave Country, dive into the wave action fresh water pool and water slide complex. Music City Duck Tours is hitting the water this year! From roads to river, take the family on a tour of historic downtown Nashville in a World War II DUKW amphibious vehicle.
4. HANDS ON ART - At the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, imagination is all you need for the Visual Arts Art Quest. Hands-on and computer-related activities at approximately 30 Art Stations relate art concepts to Frist Center exhibitions and examine ways in which art relates to everyday life and culture. Admission for people under 18 is free. Free Family Days are also offered throughout the year. Head over to Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and enter the world of fairy tales. Cheekwood also offers several arts and crafts activities for kids throughout the week.
5. REV YOUR ENGINES - The Lane Motor Museum is one of the few museums in America to specialize in European cars. Approximately 150 cars and motorcycles not typically seen in the U.S. are on display. Kids and grownups alike get a kick out of the mix of motor vehicles. The majority of the vehicles were built in the 1950s through 1970s, although some are as old as the 1920s and as new as 2000. Come see the largest Tatra collection outside Europe, a substantial micro car collection, amphibious vehicles, competition cars, one-of-a-kind vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles, military vehicles and a collection of motorcycles.
6. FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY - Opry Mills is where "shoppertainment" comes to life. Visit the more than 200 stores, themed restaurants such as Rainforest Café and the Aquarium Restaurant, entertainment venues and interactive retailers. Pet a real stingray at Stingray Reef, take in a film at the Regal IMAX Theater or drive a virtual reality racecar at Checker Flag Lightning NASCAR and feel the exhilaration in a breathtaking ride. Across the way, Dave & Buster’s Grand Sports Café is an incredible entertainment and dining venue featuring great restaurants, arcade games, billiards, over-the-top bowling experience, electronic simulation games and some of the best sports and media viewing anywhere! Nearby is the famous General Jackson Showboat where you can enjoy delicious meals and world-class entertainment while cruising the majestic Cumberland River. Midday cruises feature the amazing Peking Acrobats, and Evening Cruises include a three-course dinner and live music show featuring Nashvegas on the River.
7. THEATER AT ITS BEST - Founded in 1931, Nashville Children’s Theatre provides a season of plays for kids and families by professional adult actors and has year-round drama workshops for youth. The recently renovated theater was ranked as one of the top five children’s theaters in the U.S. by TIME magazine.
8. EXPLORE NASHVILLE’S PAST - A tour of The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson, by guides in period costume will enchant you. Visit Fort Negley, the largest and most important of the fortifications built by Union forces after Nashville fell in 1862 during the Civil War. Fort Negley is the largest inland stone fortification constructed during the Civil War. Admission is FREE so be sure to stop by the Visitors Center and tour the fort for spectacular views of Nashville. Check out the Belle Meade Plantation, once a world renowned 5,400-acre Thoroughbred horse farm and now a historic site and museum. This site is where the bloodlines of Seabiscuit, Secretariat, Funny Cide, Smarty Jones and Giacomo all began. Tour the historic mansion, walk the plantation grounds and shop in the unique museum gift shop for a hands on experience with life in the mid 1800s. Have lunch afterward at Martha's at the Plantation, a restaurant routinely featured in Southern Living magazine.
9. OUTDOOR FUN - Bring your skateboard and head over to Metro SkatePark at Two Rivers Park. The park offers a state-of-the-art facility for skateboarding, freestyle in-line skating and BMX bike riding. If you prefer an indoor skatepark, visit Sixth Avenue SkatePark, which is part of the Rocketown complex. This indoor wood park features a unilateral design with tranny and tech riders in mind. Or head on over to the Grand Old Golf & Go Karts and ride in 18 new go-carts on the region's largest go-cart track and play at a miniature golf course with 45 holes. If you are a sports fanatic you will be right at home in Nashville. Check out Nashville Sounds baseball, AAA-affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. It’s a great place for All-American fun and the Sounds host special theme nights throughout the summer with music and family friendly activities. Learn about Tennessee’s history as you amble through the 19-acre Bicentennial Mall State Park, FREE to the public, located just north of the State Capitol. Kids can romp in the fountains or play geography tag on an enormous map of the United States carved into the concrete. It was designed to give visitors a taste of Tennessee's history and natural wonders, and to serve as a lasting monument to Tennessee's Bicentennial celebration. Feed the ducks at Centennial Park and visit the Parthenon, the world’s only full-sized reproduction of the Greek Parthenon that houses Athena, the tallest indoor structure in the Western world.
10. LEARN TO TWO-STEP - At the Wildhorse Saloon, they serve up Country that Kicks! Daytime is family-friendly with a great lunch menu and festive atmosphere. Order the famous BBQ and test your feet with some authentic line dancing. Take fun pictures with the friendly horses (indoors) or participate in the daily dances lessons that are free for those adventurous enough to venture out on the dance floor.
11. NAME THAT TUNE - Take in a show at the legendary Bluebird Café where songwriters perform original material in an intimate “in the round” setting. Bluebird Café is a great spot for older children to hear from the songwriters behind their favorite radio tunes and learn a little about the not-so-public names that are so important to Music City. The Nashville Symphony Orchestra offers several programs for children that are both entertaining and educational. Programs include “Is It a Fiddle or a Violin?” a program in collaboration with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Pied Piper Concert Series and Gaylord Entertainment Foundation’s Young People’s Concerts. Or treat the kids to lunch and a musical show at Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theatre, where great productions are served up with a scrumptious lunch buffet in a barn-style theater. 
12. EXPERIENCE THE MUSIC - Engage your children in a hands-on history of country music at the Country Music Hall of Fame or see some actual instruments used by famous musicians at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum, both located in downtown Nashville. Expose the entire family to some of country’s greatest stars at the famous Grand Ole Opry.
13. EAT FOR FUN - When hunger pains hit, chow down on the best biscuits and fried chicken in the world at the Loveless Café. The Loveless story has been told the world over, from Gourmet Magazine and Bon Appetit to U.S. News and World Report, CBS Television, and People Magazine. Come discover Loveless for yourself, and experience Southern dining and hospitality at their best. For a special breakfast treat, head to the Pancake Pantry in trendy Hillsboro Village where you can choose from 24 different varieties of pancakes. The line forms early and people will wait to get a taste of the world famous flapjacks here. Give the youngins a little taste of the country life where they learn how milk gets from cow to container on a FREE tour of the Purity Dairies Plant.
14. LOSE THE RAINY DAY BLUES - Wander through Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center’s indoor complex that has plenty of fun indoor activities. Enjoy a boat ride, a water show in the conservatory or stroll through the lush indoor gardens of the vast conservatories. There are multiple choices for lunch or dinner inside the resort including the new Waters Edge Marketplace Buffet where guests can choose from numerous "Action Stations" featuring dishes from near and afar.
