Music City Center Bookings Exceed One Million Room Nights
A total of 123 meetings representing 1,062,787 room nights have been booked for the Music City Center, Mayor Karl Dean announced during the official ribbon-cutting ceremony May 20. The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) set an internal goal of booking one million room nights prior to the campus opening and now seeks to book one million room nights for the entire city annually. The Music City Center, the flexible, multi-use convention facility, is roughly three times the size of the existing Nashville Convention Center. The business booked for the Music City Center represents new business to Nashville, or existing business that could only meet here again if a larger facility were available. Tours for The Idea House at Fontanel Begin June 29, Portion of Proceeds Donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Six-year-old St. Jude Children's Research Hospital patient Mae McNally will act as the St. Jude ambassador by tracking the development of the 2013 Southern Living Idea House at Fontanel. When Mae was a patient at St. Jude, one of her favorite activities was art. She thought it would be pretty cool if she asked the current patients at St. Jude to think about what their dream home would look like, and ask them to draw a picture of it, and maybe hang that art on the walls at the Idea House. The idea took hold with St. Jude, Southern Living and Fontanel. The request will be made by Mae via her St. Jude partners, and all patient artwork will be framed, with a plaque below it stating their name and age, and adorn the walls of the Southern Living Idea House Resource Center, where visitors gather more information about everything used to build and decorate it, inside and out. Tours of the Southern Living Idea House begin June 29 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Music City Center
The Music City Center – Nashville's newest convention center featuring 1.2 million square feet total of public space, a 350,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 57,000-square-foot ballroom and parking for 1,800 cars – opened its doors on May 19. The Grand Opening celebration featured public tours, free live music throughout the building and family-friendly activities, all culminating with a free outdoor concert headlined by Nashville resident and Grammy-winning artist Sheryl Crow on May 20. The MCC, which houses the largest ballroom in the state and the new Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, will serve as a central meeting point for Nashville's visitors and residents. The center is located in the heart of SoBro, situated perfectly next to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and across the street from Bridgestone Arena, and just steps away from downtown's fantastic restaurants, shops and legendary honky-tonks. For this and much more, we name the Music City Center as this month's Brand Champion.
