Music City Center Bookings Exceed 800,000 Room Nights
As of Dec. 31, 2012, the pre-opening sales effort for the Music City Center now has the total room nights booked for the facility at 829,574, representing 101 individual meetings. The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation (NCVC) set an internal goal of booking one million room nights for the center prior to the building opening in 2013. The meetings booked for the center range from its opening year of 2013 to 2026 and include multi-year agreements for many groups. The most recent groups to commit include the National Emergency Number Association for 2014 and the International Reading Association, booked 2015. The business booked for the Music City Center represents new business to Nashville, or existing business that could only meet here again if a larger facility were available.
Fisk Jubilee Singers Honored In Music City Soul Series Concert Featuring Keb' Mo' and Friends
Nashville's famed Fisk Jubilee Singers will be honored as part of the Music City Soul Series event featuring a concert by Grammy® Award-winning blues musician Keb' Mo' on Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m. at the Studio Gallery at Fontanel. The concert will serve as a fundraiser to benefit the Fisk Jubilee Singers, who will perform along with Wynonna, Michael McDonald, THE FARM, and additional musical artists. A program of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corporation (NCVC), the Music City Soul Series is produced during Black History Month and honors the contributions of African American musicians to Music City. The event is sponsored by the NCVC, AT&T, and Fontanel and proceeds from ticket sales benefit the Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Nashville Tops the Best Places to Visit in 2013
Nashville recently has been ranked in numerous publications as a top destination for 2013. As featured on the "Today" show, Condé Nast Traveler listed Nashville as one of the Best Places to Visit in 2013. Music City is mentioned as offering a "hot, trendy new food scene and its famous, funky music scene." Other cities listed in the article were Seoul, Amsterdam, New Orleans, and Toronto. In addition, The New York Times prominently featured Music City in an article on January 8. Yahoo! Travel named Music City as a Destination to Watch in 2013, Budget Travel ranked the city in its 10 Best Budget Destinations for 2013, and Business Insider named Nashville one of its 13 Places You Need to Visit in 2013. Music City's professional ice hockey team, the Nashville Predators, has been entertaining families, visitors, and hockey fans for nearly 15 years. While in "Smashville," visitors can experience the raw, gut-wrenching excitement, and yes, even a little live music. The Preds offer in-game music to help the fans get pumped up between periods (and it's Nashville, so you never know who might show up). In addition, the organization has incorporated Nashville's musical heritage into its logos and uniforms. The team's newest logo was designed to represent the state flag of Tennessee and Nashville simultaneously, with a guitar pick shape incorporating the three stars of the state's three grand divisions. In addition, The "Predators Gold" sweaters include elements unique to Nashville – guitar strings in the numbering and lettering and piano keys on the inside of the collars. For embracing the Music City brand, we name the Nashville Predators as this month's Brand Champion.
October tax collections were the highest for that month and the second highest monthly collection in the history of tax collections. The 2012 collections were $2,841,776, an increase of 7.1%. Calendar year-to-date collections were $24,745,593, an increase of 11.4%. Fiscal year-to-date collections were $10,016,102, an increase of 5.1%.*
