Mayor Announces Music City Center Grand Opening Slated for May 19-20
The grand opening celebration for the Music City Center will take place on Sunday, May 19 and Monday, May 20, Mayor Karl Dean announced. The grand opening will include a free open house for the community on both days that will feature live, local music, as well as a free street party and outdoor concert on May 20. Mayor Dean will present his State of Metro address at the Music City Center at 10 a.m. on May 20 as part of the grand opening festivities. Details about the May 20 concert, including the lineup and headliner, will be announced in the coming weeks. Construction on the $585 million facility began in January, 2010 and will be completed on April 30. During May, furniture, fixtures and equipment will be installed, and staff training will continue. Already more than 100 meetings and 800,000 room nights have been booked.
The Band Perry to Headline Music City July 4th Celebration
Republic Nashville's Platinum-selling family trio, The Band Perry, will headline one of the city's signature events this summer – "Music City July 4th: Let Freedom Sing!" – at The Lawn at Riverfront Park, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) announced today. The show line-up will also include GRAMMY®-winning blues musician Keb' Mo' and the GRAMMY®-winning Nashville Symphony Orchestra. The July 4th event will feature live music and family activities throughout the afternoon and evening, and the headlining concert will be followed by one of the nation's best fireworks displays choreographed to live music. The GRAMMY® Awards Shine a Spotlight on Nashville
Music City shined at the 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards on Sunday, February 10. The number of Nashville performers and GRAMMY winners who call Nashville home continues to solidify the Tennessee capital as the Music City. Nashville performers showcased the city's music diversity with performances ranging from pop, rock, R&B, classic, contemporary country and soul. Nashville-based musicians won awards for rock, pop, Christian, classical, visual media, music video, Americana, bluegrass, blues, folk, spoken word and country works. Top GRAMMY winners of the night, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, showed Nashville their love upon receiving the best rock album prize for "El Camino." "Thank you, everyone in Music City, for welcoming us. Nashville, Tennessee is a wonderful place." The Recording Academy has taken notice of the strong ties as well, and chose Nashville to host "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music's Biggest Night" on December 5, 2012, marking the first time the event has taken place outside of Los Angeles. Governor Recommends $8 Million Increase in Tourism Marketing
The Governor-appointed Tennessee Tourism Committee, comprised of about two dozen tourism leaders from across the state, issued the Tennessee Tourism Report, which conclusively demonstrates that significant state investment in tourism marketing is sound public policy with the potential to pay immediate and long-term dividends through job creation and increased tax revenue to fund essential services. During the State of the State Address on Jan. 28, 2013, Gov. Bill Haslam proposed an $8 million increase to the state's tourism marketing budget to support the findings and recommendations of the committee, pending completion of a long-term strategic plan for Tennessee tourism. Music City Represented Among Pollstar Awards
Congratulations to NCVB members recognized at the 24th Annual Pollstar Awards, which honors excellence in the concert industry. Nominated by industry leaders and voted upon by concert professionals, the Pollstar Award winners for concert year 2012 include: The Ryman as Theatre of the Year, MooTV as Video Company of the Year, Rod Essig with Nashville's CAA office tied as Agent of the Year, John Huie with Nashville's CAA office as Third Coast Agent of the Year, Clair as Sound Company of the Year. Also at the awards show, Mayor Karl Dean announced that Pollstar Live! 2014 and the 25th Annual Pollstar Awards will take place in Music City.

OpenTable announced the Top 25 Most Romantic Dining Cities in the U.S. and Music City was ranked No. 7. San Antonio, Texas was the most romantic city listed at No.1. Dance Magazine Recognizes Nashville Ballet Dancer
Dance Magazine, the pre-eminent authority on all things dance-related, has named Nashville Ballet's own company dancer Kayla Rowser as one of its 25 to Watch in 2013. New service launched from LA to Seattle and Nashville
Delta is adding three daily flights between Los Angeles and Seattle and Nashville starting April 8. Customers flying on the new Seattle service will benefit from connection opportunities to a comprehensive trans-Pacific network. Delta is rapidly growing Seattle as an Asian gateway and recently received approval for new service to Shanghai for summer 2013. The airline currently offers international service to Beijing and Osaka, Japan. Delta also has an extensive code share agreement with Alaska Airlines in Seattle, providing customers access to more than 50 domestic markets. The Nashville flights will use a Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
