FY 12-13 Tax Collections Highest in City’s History
The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) announced that Nashville has reached a new fiscal year record for the highest hotel occupancy tax collections in the city’s history. In addition the occupancy tax, a key performance measure for the hospitality industry, broke monthly records in 11 out of 12 months, with June marking the highest collections for a single month ever. FY 2012-13 collections reached an all-time high of $36,937,635, representing an increase of 8.6% compared to 2012. June 2013 revenues totaled $3,998,945, marking the highest collections in one month, exceeding the previous all-time high by 8.3% (June 2012). The NCVC sold 1,176,683 future room nights for FY 12-13, the highest in the city’s history.

NCVC Partners with Bon Appetit for “Press Play” Initiative

Phillip Nappi of Nashville’s Peter Nappi Selected as Finalist in Entrepreneur Magazine’s “Emerging Entrepreneurs” Contest
Phillip Nappi, co-owner of the Nashville footwear company Peter Nappi, is one of five finalists in Entrepreneur magazine’s “Emerging Entrepreneur of 2013” contest. Tennessee’s Tourism Chief Receives National Accolade
Commissioner Susan Whitaker, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, was named 2013 State Tourism Director of the Year by the U.S. Travel Association’s National Council of State Tourism Directors. The award is presented annually to the state tourism director who contributes to successfully raising the profile of their state as a travel and tourism destination, selecting the individual exhibiting the most impressive achievements. 2013 marks her 10th year as tourism commissioner. Tourism is one of Tennessee’s largest industries, providing a $15.36 billion direct economic impact and generating more than $1 billion annually in state and local sales tax revenue, with a record-setting 54 million person-trips to Tennessee in 2011 – a 10 percent increase, ranking the state 9th in total travel.

High School Career Fair Introduces Students to Hospitality Industry
The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) is recruiting industry partners to showcase potential career paths at the fifth annual Academies of Nashville Career Exploration Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Music City Center. The event will provide an avenue for high school freshman in Nashville to explore a breadth of career areas through interaction with local professionals. Engaging activities will allow students to envision themselves in careers in hospitality and tourism and also see the relevance of their studies. The students will use this experience as a key element to determine which themed academy to pursue throughout high school. July 2013 hotel data for Davidson County

  • Demand (rooms sold) increased 6.7% over July 2012. This is the best July in the city’s history in terms of rooms sold.
  • Occupancy increased 6.2% over the previous year.
  • Average Daily Rate (ADR) increased 7.9% over the previous year.
  • Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR) increased 14.6% over the previous year.
  • Hotel Revenue increased 15.1% over the previous year.
  • Supply increased 0.4% over the previous year.
Nashville had the 2nd largest increases in RevPAR and Hotel Revenue among the Top 25 Markets for July, and the 4th largest percent increases in Demand (rooms sold) and Occupancy. All increases were above average for the Top 25 Markets.


Cummins Station
Cummins Station is a redevelopment of an iconic historic property transformed into a contemporary business and retail community. The Cummins Station community consists of 400,000 square feet of truly unique office, retail, restaurant and recreational space, including M. Restaurant and m. market, Avenue Bank, and more. Another unique property of Cummins Station is the Community Arts Program which encompasses exhibitions of college student art, vintage art exhibition posters, and an original collection of paintings, drawings, prints and photographs installed throughout the building. On the garden level, there is also a dedicated gallery (comprised of two converted passenger train cars) in which a variety of exhibitions are held each year, all free to the public.
