Located just off of 5 Points in East Nashville, at 1108 Woodland Street,
Unit B, East Side Story is a creative addition to this thriving
Created by East Nashville resident, Chuck Beard, East Side Story was conceived as an outlet for fellow authors to share their talents. The bookstore will provide readings by local authors, workshops, and numerous collaborations with area businesses. The website will offer writing prompts, contests, and online journals.
“My goal is for East Side Story to be a blank literary canvas for local writers," says Chuck Beard. “The bookstore and website will encourage, support, cultivate, and provide a platform for local writers to tell their best story.”
Beard’s love for the written word began long before his vision for East Side Story. He wrote his self-published novel, Adventures Inside a Bright-Eyed Sky, while living in Edinburgh, Scotland and attending the university there. This past summer, he began an innovative School of Letters Master’s Degree program in English and Creative Writing at The University of the South. He has also been a contributing freelance writer for a number of Nashville publications as well as editor for Number, Inc.
East Side Story’s quaint location in the 5 Points Collaborative—an East Nashville business incubator that launched last year—evokes the charm of the bookstore housed within. The “Idea Hatchery” provides small businesses like the East Side Bookstore a place to get started.
“I have had the joy of watching East Nashville continue to grow into a cozy, creative community over the last three years that I have lived in the neighborhood,” Beard continues. “I am excited about contributing to the already thriving creative energy.”
Also celebrating with a grand opening reception Saturday, September 15, will be “Idea Hatchery” 5 Points Collaborative neighbors, the Hello Boys.
