CHEEKWOOD ANNOUNCES POP UP GALLERY DOWNTOWN DURING MONTH OF OCTOBER
Gallery to be a part of the first Saturday Art Crawl
Cheekwood is proud to participate in
Artober Nashville this year with its first pop-up gallery featuring a
unique two-part exhibition, Perspectrum.
During the month of October the exhibition will be split into two locations, Cheekwood’s courtyard gallery as well as a 219 5th Avenue, a temporary space in the downtown arts district. Adding an alternative space to our traditional museum setting, Cheekwood is thrilled to temporarily re-locate a portion of its collection to such a well-established arts area.
“This is a unique opportunity for Cheekwood to extend our reach beyond our fifty-five acres,” said Jane Offenbach, Cheekwood’s President & CEO. “Cheekwood has a strong collection and we’re excited to be able to introduce these rarely seen works to a new audience during this exhibition.”
Curated from files containing rarely seen works on paper, Perspectrum focuses on the second half of the 20th century including Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Highlights include works from greatly influential artists, Robert Rauschenberg, Peter Phillips and Andy Warhol. The courtyard gallery at Cheekwood will feature black and white works on paper, with the pop-up location showcasing work in brilliant and expressive color.
“This exhibition will allow visitors to literally view Cheekwood’s collection in a new light,” said Chris Doubler, Cheekwood’s exhibition designer and curator of Perspectrum.
Opening October 6th for the first Saturday art crawl, the two-part exhibition will run concurrently throughout the month.
