Nashville is a Top Choice Nashville’s culturally diverse and friendly environment makes it a favorite place for conventioneers and tourists, as well as a great place to work, live and raise a family. The following honors and rankings are just a few of Music City’s shining accolades.
- Nashville was named America's Friendliest City in 2009 by voters in Travel + Leisure's annual America's Favorite Cities survey.
- The Nashville CVB was awarded the 2009 Pinnacle Award by Successful Meetings Magazine. The Pinnacle Award recognizes the nation's best convention and visitors bureaus, hotels and convention centers.
- Men's Journal named The Gulch one of the "30 Coolest Neighborhoods in America" in 2009 in part because it received the first LEED Neighborhood Development certification in the South.
- MSN Travel ranked Nashville as the 13th coolest city in 2009 stating that “Nashville is the heart and soul of country music in America. A newly revitalized downtown district, however, features several clubs that showcase emerging and established rock and blues acts.”
- Southern Living’s 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards ranked Nashville No. 5 in the Best Southern City category. Other Nashville awards went to Loveless Café and Pancake Pantry (No. 5 and 6, Best Breakfast Restaurant), Cheekwood Botanical Garden (No. 10, Best Public Gardens), Loveless Café (No. 5, Southern Favorite Restaurants), Green Hills (No. 7, Best Neighborhood for Shopping), Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center (No. 2, Best Hotel).
- MSN Real Estate ranked Nashville as one of the Top 10 places to retire in 2009, due in part to the tax perks offered to seniors in Davidson County.
- The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau was named 2009 Prime Site and Top Destination in Facilities & Destinations magazine’s March edition.
- In 2009, Tripadvisor.com ranked Nashville one of their Top 20 Best Family Vacation Destinations.
- Draft magazine ranked Beer Sellar as one of the top 200 beer bars in America in 2009.
- Yahoo! Real Estate ranked Nashville as the 10th most affordable place to retire in the U.S. in 2008.
- Travel + Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News ranked Nashville as the 2nd most affordable city and 4th friendliest city in 2008 in a survey that asked travelers to rank 25 top U.S. cities in 45 categories, ranging from food and shopping to people, culture, nightlife, and more.
- Nashville International Airport was ranked 6th in its size class in a survey performed by J.D. Power and Associates on Airport Customer Satisfaction in 2008.
- Black Enterprise magazine named Nashville as the 4th best place to retire in 2008. Music City also received high marks for its arts and culture scene.
- In 2008, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau was awarded a Gold Service Award from Meetings & Conventions magazine, an Award of Excellence from Corporate and Incentive Travel, and a Distinctive Achievement Award from Association & Convention Facilities magazine. These awards were given for the NCVB’s excellence in serving the meetings industry as well as association and meeting planners.
- The Hermitage Hotel’s Art Deco men’s restroom was voted “America’s Best Restroom” in 2008 by Cintas Corporation.
- In 2008, “The Today Show” on NBC named Nashville one of the five friendliest cities in America.
- Richard Florida’s book Who’s Your City? describes Nashville as “home to much of the world’s best studio talent and has eclipsed even New York and L.A. as the place for music writing, recording and publishing.”
- Fortune Small Business magazine ranked Nashville as one of the top 100 places to live and launch a business in 2008.
- Relocate-America named Nashville as one of the top 100 places to live in 2008.
- Nashville ranked 22nd in AmericanStyle magazine’s annual Top 25 Arts Destinations reader poll.
- In 2008, Forbes magazine ranked Nashville as the No. 15 best city for business and careers based on job and income growth and migration trends and ranked No. 14 best city for jobs.
- In January 2008, www.bizjournals.com ranked Nashville as the No. 3 best city in terms of cultural amenities behind New York City and San Francisco.
- MSN.com included the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum in its Top 10 list of the “World’s Wildest Architecture” in June 2008.
- Ernest Tubb Record Shop and Grimey’s New and Preloved Music earned a spot on Paste magazine’s “Coolest Record Stores in America” in 2008.
- Nashville’s 4th of July Celebration was ranked in the Top 11 places in the U.S. and granted the title of “The Most Musical Boom” by AOL City Guide in June 2007.
- National Geographic Adventure magazine chose Nashville as one of the Top 50 adventure towns in the U.S. in 2007. The top adventure towns were selected by meeting above average standards in five categories: Wilderness, Small Town, Mountain, Waterfront, and City.
- In 2007, U.S. News & World Report ranked the country’s 100 Busiest Airports (based on the most on-time flights and least crowded planes). Nashville was reported to be the 7th Least Miserable Airport.
- In 2007, ByWays magazine named Nashville No. 4 in the Top 10 destinations for motorcoach travel. Tennessee was named No. 4 out of the Top 10 motorcoach states. Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry was No. 2 in the “man-made” attractions category, behind Disney World.
- The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau was granted the “Award of Excellence” by Corporate & Incentive Travel magazine in 2007.
- Nashville was tapped No. 2 on the list of “Best Places for Relocating Families,” by Worldwide ERC and Primacy Relocation. The 2007 report focused on “the ease with which a family can move to a city and the ease of settling into a new life there.”
- In 2007, Priceline.com named Nashville one of the top 25 destinations in the world to ring in the New Year.
- In 2007, MSN City Guides named Legends Corner one of the Top 10 Best Music Venues in America.
- For the second consecutive year, the Mobil Travel Guide bestowed upon The Hermitage Hotel its coveted Five Star Award for 2007, making it the only hotel in Tennessee to hold the distinction.
- BusinessWeek.com and Sperling’s Best Places named Nashville one of the best places for artists in the United States in 2007
- Nashville was ranked one of the top five “friendliest cities in America” according to Travel + Leisure magazine.
- Nashville was ranked No. 5 in Black Enterprise magazine’s “Top 10 best cities for African Americans” in 2007.
- In 2007, Bizjournals ranked Nashville No. 8 in the U.S. for per-capita income.
- In 2007, Forbes magazine ranked Nashville 9th in terms of “Best Places for Business and Careers.”
- Nashville ranked as the No. 7 fastestgrowing wine regions in the U.S. in 2007 according to Orbitz Food & Wine Index.
- For the third year in a row, Nashville was highest-ranked of the “hottest cities to relocate [or] expand your business” by Expansion Management magazine, February 2007.
- In 2007, Sporting News ranked Nashville No. 16 among “Top Sports Towns in the U.S.”
