Bourbon Nib Brittle Takes Home the Gold at Summer Fancy Food Show in New York
NASHVILLE, T.N. (JULY 10, 2014) – Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Co.’s Bourbon Nib Brittle has won the 2014 sofi™ Award for Outstanding Confection presented by the Specialty Food Association. A sofi is the top honor in the $88.3 billion specialty food industry; “sofi” stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation. Olive & Sinclair’s Bourbon Nib Brittle was one of 125 finalists selected by a national panel of specialty food professionals from a record-setting 2,737 entries across 32 award categories including Outstanding Chocolate, Cheese and Snack Food. Winners were announced June 30, 2014 by internationally-acclaimed chef Dominique Ansel at a red-carpet ceremony at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York.
The sofi Awards have honored the best of the best in the food and beverage industry since 1972. Finalists are selected by a national panel of specialty food professionals in New York City. The winners are then selected at the Summer Fancy Food Show by retailers and food service buyers attending the event and announced at the sofi Awards Ceremony at the Summer Show.
O&S’s award-winning Bourbon Nib Brittle was created when friends and neighbors at Nashville’s Corsair Distillery offered the use of their spent bourbon barrels. The barrels were filled with a high-fat-content cocoa, which blended with the barrels’ subtle notes of apple, cherry, and oak, and then combined with caramelized cane sugar and butter for a delicious brittle with a classic Southern bourbon finish.
