Musicians Corner Announces Spring 2016 Season in New Permanent Home Launches Acoustic Friday Nights Series
April 12, 2016 (Nashville, TN) – Musicians Corner, Nashville’s destination for free music, will begin its seventh year of free music events with a two-day Kick Off Celebration in its permanent location in Centennial Park on Friday, May 13 and Saturday, May 14.
“Musicians Corner has been a fantastic display of the community spirit at the heart of Nashville’s commitment to arts and music since it debuted in 2010,” said Mayor Barry. “This permanent location will showcase that spirit even more powerfully, and it will be a source of joy and entertainment for families in Nashville for years to come. I’m grateful to all of the artists, sponsors, and Metro employees who came together to make it happen.”
Musicians Corner will debut Acoustic Friday Nights on May 13 & 20 and June 17 & 24, where its audience will have the opportunity to hear artists in a stripped-down setting under the lights at Musicians Corner’s permanent location.
“With the gaining popularity of our program, we’re excited to introduce our first evening series,” said John Tumminello, Executive Director. “Musicians Corner’s permanent location looks beautiful under the string lights and will be the perfect setting for a date night or to unwind from a busy week.” Musicians Corner’s Spring 2016 Season will take place on four Fridays on May 13, 20, June 17, 24 and seven Saturdays on May 14, 21, 28, June 4, 11, 18, 25. Events will feature multi-genre artist performances on the SunTrust Main Stage and Lightning 100 Acoustic Stage, Mix 92.9 Kidsville activities, several of Nashville's best food trucks, Dogville activities, local artisans, Featured Charity Partners, and the Musicians Corner Pub. Events will take place from 5 - 9 PM on Fridays and from 12 - 5 PM on Saturdays.
The Spring 2016 Season will see the debut of Musicians Corner’s permanent home, built as part of phase one of the Centennial Park Restoration -- a native woodland landscape woven with paths and benches, crab orchard stone seating, and gently graded slopes for blankets and picnicking, located at the corner of West End Avenue and 27th Street.
“To watch the permanent home for Musicians Corner take root has been a real pleasure,” said Sylvia Rapoport, President of The Conservancy for the Parthenon and Centennial Park. "Nestled in a picturesque forested grove, the new location will allow audiences to take advantage of the serene views and superb sight lines that surround the new landscape. Centennial Park is a rich tapestry that chronicles the story of Nashville. Now, parkgoers can enjoy performances in a contemporary landscape that echoes with Nashville’s past.”
Musicians Corner’s Spring 2016 Season artist lineup, co-curated by Justin Branam, Program Manager and John Tumminello, Executive Director, features 70 local and national artists, including SunTrust Main Stage headliners: alternative country rock legends The Jayhawks; pedal steel guitar legend Robert Randolph & The Family Band; Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars, formed by a group of refugees displaced to Guinea during the Sierra Leone Civil War; Southern California alternative rockers The Mowgli’s; Louisiana indie American roots band Hurray For The Riff Raff; California indie rock band Family of the Year; Matthew Perryman Jones & Friends, featuring one of Nashville’s most powerful voices with several special guests; Dom Flemons, multi-instrumentalist songster from the Carolina Chocolate Drops; Americana singer-songwriter John Fullbright; Gospel legends The Fairfield Four; Emerson Hart, from the alternative rock band Tonic; Folk Singer-Songwriter Steve Forbert; Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer, and many more artists.
