Job Seekers Invited to Attend Hospitality Industry Job Fair on Oct. 18 at Music City Center
Hundreds of Jobs Available at Nashville-Area Hotels, Restaurants, Venues and Attractions
NASHVILLE – Job seekers are invited to a hospitality industry job fair on Oct. 18, as the city brings together employers in the tourism and convention sectors for a hiring event. The job fair will take place from noon to 6 p.m. in the Davidson Ballroom of the Music City Center. It is free and open to the public. Mayor Megan Barry will be in attendance at noon to help kick off the event.
Nearly 40 employers have registered to attend, including several of the city’s major hotels, attractions, transportation companies and restaurants. (See list below.) Employers will be looking for workers from entry level to management to executive level.
“With hotels, restaurants and other attractions continuing to open and grow, a skilled workforce is key to continuing Nashville’s momentum as a top travel destination,” said Dan Piotrowski, general manager of the Omni Nashville Hotel and co-chair of the Hospitality Workforce Advisory Council.
This is the second time the hospitality industry has come together to host a job fair. The first citywide job fair was in March, 2016. Some 65 employers and 550 job seekers participated.
Greg Adkins, president and CEO of the Greater Nashville Hospitality Association, also co-chairs the Workforce Council and said, “Our hospitality partners have hundreds of open positions and felt strongly about hosting a second job fair this year.”
The hospitality industry employs 59,440 people in Davidson County. Hospitality is Nashville’s second-largest industry with annual visitor spending generating $5.7 billion, one-third of all visitor spending in the state. Last year, 13.5 million visitors came to Music City.
Nashville has experienced 69 consecutive months of year-over-year growth in hotel rooms sold, along with record hotel tax collections. The hospitality industry is expected to continue to grow and place even more pressure on the need for workers. More than 3,000 hotel rooms are expected to open in the next 24 months. Additionally, 53 restaurants have opened since January, with 63 more announced with expected open dates this year. Fifteen more have been announced with expected open dates in 2017.
Several parking and transportation options are available to job fair attendees. Parking will be available in the Music City Center parking garages, P1 and P2, which are accessible via Sixth Avenue from Demonbreun Street or Korean Veterans Boulevard. Parking is $7 until 3:30 p.m. (Because of an event at Bridgestone Arena, parking will be $15 after 3:30 p.m.) Ride-share service, Lyft, will be offering a discount to job fair attendees. If you're new to Lyft, simply download the app to claim your free ride credits: www.lyft.com/invited/tnjobs. If you already have Lyft, save 15% off two rides by entering code TN15 into the 'Payments' section of the app. Also, MTA buses and the free Music City Circuit Green line go to Music City Center, and several nearby parking lots can be found at www.parkitdowntown.com.
