DEEP PLAY FUN HOUSE
Deep play - a disadvantageous game; an irrational wager, in which the marginal utility of what one stands to win is grossly outweighed by the disutility of what one stands to lose.
Fun house - an amusement facility found on amusement park and funfair midways in which patrons encounter and actively interact with various devices designed to surprise, challenge, and amuse the visitor. Unlike thrill rides, funhouses are participatory attractions, where visitors enter and move around under their own power.
Deep Play Fun House is a juried exhibition and installation of videoart works in the expansive Track One warehouse. As an immersive video and sound environment, the viewer defines the narrative sequence by negotiating labyrinthine pathways in a large, formerly industrial environment alongside live sound performances for a one night event on Halloween.
Just as artists have historically taken advantage of the lack of fixed meaning in industrial spaces to transgressive and playful ends, Deep Play Fun House will be an opportunity for artists to address the blurred boundary between rural and urban, past and present, memory, desire, and sense of place.
Selected artists include Willie Stewart, Patrick Stefaniak, Christine Rogers, Sarah Schneider, Allison Baker, YunTing Tsai, Matt Christy, Jeffrey Williams, Michael Carter, Mandy Cano Villalobos, Allyson Page Patterson, Robert Uehlin + Rosanna Yerke, Adam Henry, John Warren, Casey Pierce, Rbt. Sps. and Jillian McManemin, Trevor Amery and Morgan Mandalay.
Live sound performance by equalityisafalsegod.
