About 17th Annual Avant-Garage Sale
The Avant-Garage Sale is the annual destination for visitors to explore the gallery archives within a boutique and affordable arts market, featuring vintage clocks and a private collection of early 20th-century pewter ice cream molds. Marking the event’s 17th anniversary this year, the gallery invites guests to discover distinctive collections from the past, presented in a 21st-Century environment. Cool artwork, art books, furniture, props, design, and posters are being selected for this year’s event. Even the most avid connoisseurs will be surprised by some of the items in this year’s collection. Featured sale exhibits will include “A Wall of Poetry,” poems by famed Tennessee’s performing poet, the late Robert Michie; an assortment of remaining drawings from the personal portfolio of early 20th-century TIME Magazine Cover Artist Ernest Hamlin Baker; rare 1940s photographs of Paris, France by legendary LIFE photographer Ed Clark; Collectible Books By The Pound, to be weighed on an old market scale that is also for sale; and various paintings and sculptures from private collections.
According to gallery owner Anne Brown, “Each year, the Avant-Garage Sale becomes even more popular with the buzz about what will be found that is affordable, appealing, and just plain unusual. As part of our Summer of Art on 5th, the diversity of offerings will include special items never-before-seen from our archives that appeal to both vintage and contemporary collectors. Most importantly, this is a once-a-year opportunity to present one-of-a-kind merchandise during the August Avant-Garage Sale at The Arts Company.”
