Popular Tinkering Garage returns for the holidays on Nov. 24 at Adventure Science Center
Newly redesigned and expanded inventor workshop offers unique way to spend quality time with friends and family while sparking imaginations and science discovery
Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 31, 2017—Beginning Friday, Nov. 24, guests are invited to take a break from frantic holiday shopping to connect with family and friends in Adventure Science Center’s newly redesigned Tinkering Garage. This popular hands-on experience returns this year with even more tools, more materials, and more opportunities to design and build something incredible. The space celebrates the entire design process from brainstorming to building to testing and evaluating and offers custom experiences for inventors of every age, individuals, and groups. Tinkering Garage is free with the price of admission to the science center and runs November 24, 2017, through January 15, 2018.
More information about the Tinkering Garage is available at www.adventuresci.org/tinkering.
Along with an expanded gallery space that offers room for a lot more tinkering, this year’s Tinkering Garage includes additional new activities and is organized into “zones” to help guests choose just the right kind of projects:
- GUIDED ACTIVITY ZONE
Guests choose a pre-designed project related to transportation, robotics, animals, holidays, or games. They “shop” for supplies, grab a seat, and follow the project instructions to build an invention. Some include an opportunity to test the final product on a test track or in a wind tube, while others are able to be taken home.
- YOUNG TINKERERS ZONE
Designed for ages 0-5, this zone provides the opportunity for caregivers to engage with budding builders through special “Storybook STEM” challenges. Each challenge is tied to a classic children’s story and includes modified materials that are safer for young children to use.
- TEAM CHALLENGE ZONE
Families or groups of friends can work as a team to meet a different building challenge each week. Unlike projects in other zones, these challenges require collaboration and group decision-making, and create an open dialogue about the engineering design process through challenges that can only be accomplished through teamwork.
- FREE BUILDING ZONE
Guests can choose their own tools and materials to build projects they dream up or explore how electronics work by taking them apart and putting them back together. Located in the back of the space, this zone will offers a safer place for guests to use heavier tools and saws.
The Tinkering Garage will run Nov. 24, 2017, through Jan. 15, 2018, and is included with general admission to Adventure Science Center. Lead Sponsor: American Paper & Twine Co.
