Thanks to the success of the Music City Songwriting Competition, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp conducted a worldwide search for the best original song in 2013 and partnered with Jana Kramer, American Songwriter Magazine, GAC, Southwest Airlines®, and Renaissance Nashville Hotel to make it all happen. All entrants received a copy of Jana Kramer's self titled CD. The winning songwriter was flown to Nashville for a TV interview, mentoring session with Jana Kramer, time with a professional songwriter for a Q&A, the opportunity for a single song publishing deal, plus more. Entries were narrowed down to the top 25 which were then judged by a panel of top names in the Nashville music industry, including recording artist Jana Kramer, ASCAP's Mike Sistad, GAC's "Headline Country" host Storme Warren, Alex Torrez and Nashville CVC President Butch Spyridon. Judges rated each song based on the following criteria: melody, composition, originality, lyrics and, most importantly, commercial appeal.
