Montgomery Bell Academy
Founded in 1867 and accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools, and the Middle States Association of Independent Schools, Montgomery Bell Academy is an independent, nonsectarian, college preparatory day school for boys enrolling 223 students in grades 7-8 and 493 students in grades 9-12. MBA strives to have each boy develop as a gentleman, scholar, and athlete; grow in values and citizenship; and prepare for achievement and leadership in a multicultural world. Of 98 teachers, 67% hold advanced degrees, including 14 doctorates. The ratio of students to teachers is 7:1, and the average class size is 13. Our students come from more than 70 different public, private, and parochial schools; 14% are minority students; and 100% plan to enroll at four-year colleges and universities. In 2013, 230 MBA students took a total of 554 AP exams and scored 3 or above on 495 exams (89%). This included 226 scores of 5 (41%). 24 MBA students were named National AP scholars. The 124 members of the Class of 2013 included 21 National Merit Semi-Finalists and 17 Commended Students.
